Tranquility

I think we all have wished that the world was perfect at certain points in our lives. Wishing that the economy was booming, the environment was perfect, people are nicer, and that life just felt a little easier. It’s a comforting thought—imagining a world where everything falls into place, where sustainability isn’t an uphill battle, and where industries, including fashion, prioritize people and the planet without needing to be pressured into it.

But reality always snaps us back. The economy is unstable, the environment is deteriorating, and industries that could be forces for good often operate in ways that do more harm than help. The fashion industry, for example, has the power to be a leader in sustainability and ethical practices, yet it remains one of the biggest contributors to pollution, waste, and labor exploitation. Greenwashing runs rampant, brands make bold promises with little follow-through, and consumers are left trying to navigate an industry that profits off of overproduction and rapid consumption.

Still, just because the world isn’t perfect doesn’t mean we stop trying. Wishing for change is one thing—taking steps toward it is another. No, we may not wake up tomorrow to a booming economy, a pristine environment, and a society where kindness is the norm, but we can take action in our own ways. We can choose to support brands that align with our values, push for policies that protect both workers and the planet, and be mindful of how our consumption habits contribute to the larger picture.

Perfection may be impossible, but progress isn’t. And as frustrating as it can be to exist in an imperfect world, we have to remember that even small efforts add up. A better world doesn’t just appear—it’s built, piece by piece, by those who refuse to accept that things have to stay the way they are.
