Needing a Change
There is a certain angst that comes with changing seasons. I'm sure we all have heard the news that it is snowing in Florida which is quite rare for the formerly known 'Sunshine State'. As the seasons change and the loving holiday approaches there seems to be quite a bit of frustration in the air. It’s the kind of frustration that feels hard to pinpoint—like the world is shifting in ways that are both subtle and jarring. Snow in Florida, a state synonymous with warm beaches and year-round sunshine, feels like a metaphor for the unpredictability of the times we’re living in. Climate change, once a far-off concern, is now making itself known in unmistakable ways, from unseasonal weather to record-breaking temperatures.
And yet, as we prepare for Valentine’s Day—a holiday meant to celebrate love and connection—there’s a strange tension in the air. Maybe it’s the weight of the constant environmental changes, the ongoing societal challenges, or simply the unease that comes with the unknown. It feels as though the shifting seasons reflect the restlessness many of us are feeling inside.
This frustration isn’t without reason. When the world feels so out of balance, it’s easy to feel powerless, to wonder if the choices we make really matter. We so desperately want change within the world or within our lives but we are overpowered by consistently feeling powerless. But perhaps this is where love—true, intentional love—comes into play. Love for the planet, for each other, and for ourselves can serve as the antidote to the frustration, helping us channel that angst into action.
So, as snow falls unexpectedly in Florida and the air buzzes with seasonal change, let’s use this moment to reflect. How can we show love to the world around us, especially in times of uncertainty? Maybe it’s through small actions, like reducing waste, supporting sustainable brands, or checking in on friends and family. Or perhaps it’s through bigger commitments, like advocating for change or rethinking how we engage with our environment.
The seasons may change, and the world may feel unpredictable, but love has always been a constant. It’s what keeps us grounded, what pushes us to do better, and what inspires us to hope. Even amidst the frustration, there’s an opportunity to find connection and purpose—and maybe that’s exactly what this season is calling us to do.
